How to do it

  1. Position yourself in a standing calf raise machine, placing the balls of one foot on the edge of the platform or block, with your heel extending off. The other foot can rest behind you or be held up.
  2. Adjust the shoulder pads so they rest comfortably on your shoulders, and grasp the handles for stability.
  3. Begin the movement by lowering your heel as far as possible, feeling a stretch in your calf.
  4. From the stretched position, powerfully raise your heel by pushing through the ball of your foot, contracting your calf muscle fully.
  5. Pause briefly at the top of the contraction, squeezing your calf.
  6. Slowly lower your heel back to the starting position, controlling the movement throughout the entire range of motion.
  7. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions before switching to the other leg.
