Standing Cable Glute Kickbacks

An isolation movement that trains your glutes, done with a cable. Your hamstrings and abs help out.

How to do it

  1. Attach an ankle strap to a low cable pulley and then attach the strap to one of your ankles.
  2. Stand facing the cable machine, holding onto the frame for support. Ensure your body is upright with a slight bend in your standing knee.
  3. Keeping your core engaged and your back straight, slowly kick the working leg straight back in an arc, focusing on squeezing your glute at the top of the movement. Avoid leaning forward excessively or arching your lower back.
  4. Hold the contraction for a moment, then slowly return your leg to the starting position, controlling the movement throughout. Do not let the weight stack touch down completely if possible, to maintain tension.
  5. Complete the desired number of repetitions on one leg before switching to the other leg.
